Supervises and coordinates activities of Stevedore (water
trans.) Ii engaged in loading and unloading ships' cargoes:
Assigns duties to workers, and exlpains methods of handling,
stowing, securing cargo, and setting up hoisting equipment.
Determines what cargo requires special handling and how it is to
be stowed in ship's hold. Signals Wnich Driver (water trans.) to
raise or lower cargo. May esitmate dunnage (paper and timber)
required to brace and arrange cargo in ship's hold to prevent
cargo damage. May maintain inventory of dunnage. May be
designated according to work area as Header, Dock (water
trans.); Header, Ship (water trans.); or kind of cargo sotwed as
Cotton Header (water trans.).
